1. Right now in this book Jacob is in the loop with everyone. He can't seem to find Emma so he hangs around waiting for Emma. He meets a boy named Enoch who makes living dolls. They talk for a while and then Enoch secretly shows Jacob, Victor who is dead. Bronwyn, Victor's sister, finds Jacob in Victor's room and scolds them. They talk about how Victor has been dead for a while and sometimes Enoch brings him back to life but it takes a lot of hearts and energy to do it. They talk about maybe Enoch bringing him back to life again which makes Bronwyn teary and happy. When Jacob leaves he hears Miss Peregrine coming out of her room so he hides in another room. When Miss Peregrine goes downstairs he realizes that the room he is hiding in is Emma's. He snoops around her room curious about Emma's and his grandfather's relationship. Jacob finds a hatbox filled with letters and pictures of Emma and his grandfather, Abe. Most of the pictures were happy but the last one was sad. The picture was of Jacob's aunt when she was little and that was the last picture he sent her. Then unexpectedly Emma walks in his room! She sees him with the hatbox and all of the letters on the floor. She is first very frustrated and mad at him but she calms down. She explains how after Abe left he didn't come back for her and how he stopped sending letters. Jacob is very sorry. Jacob thinks about putting his arm around her but it would just feel weird doing it less than 3 feet away from Emma's and Abe's love letters. Then Emma puts her arm on Jacob's arm and shoulder. He thinks that they are going to kiss but he doesn't want to. If he doesn't kiss her it will offend her though. He says "Do you and Enoch have something going on together?" and she backs away and says no in disgust.
2. This book is at a kind of boring part right now but I really do think this is a really good book!! I think some parts were weird like when Jacob saw a "monster" that killed his grandfather but it made the story interesting. It was also weird when Jacob was in the basement of the old house and saw those hearts and brains but now I get why they were there. It was for Enoch! I like how the "kids" in the loop never get old! It's cool because some kids who are like they are 10 are 86 years old! It would be cool to live there because you have the same day over and over again so people who aren't in the loop forget everything the next day! It would be cool to raid the village because you would get to do anything to anyone except killing them. I can't even think of something bad about the book except how some little scenes are boring. I also like how the author explains details super clearly and not in a confusing way. This is one of my favorite authors because they make simple writing so interesting and descriptive. Overall this book is really intriguing and good.
3. I think that one of the themes in the story is the great journey. One of the reasons why is because Jacob has traveled all the way to a small island off of Ireland just to search for a house. When he got there he was disappointed at it. It looked like no one has been living in it for more than a couple decades. He goes back the next day and explores the house further. A bunch of kids see him and they ask if he is Abe. He says no and the children run away. Jacob follows them and he enters then later enters the loop. As you can see there is a great journey that Jacob is travelling on. Another place where that theme shows up is when Jacob travels to the house and through the loop. Jacob has to walk across most of the island to get to the house and the loop. There are many many different places where this theme shows up again.
4. My favorite character in this book is Emma. She has a really good personality. She's smart, funny, and pretty. She can be a hothead at times but not for long. I think she forgives people easily. She always turns a bad moment into a good one. She also has a lot of courage like when she helps Jacob escape from the angry mob of people before she knew him. I also like how Emma is peculiar. If I was peculiar I would like to have hands that gave fire because you hide it from normal people without looking suspicious. Emma is also very nice to Jacob especially when he finds him. She could of just abandoned Jacob but she showed him around.
5. My least favorite character is probably Jacob's dad because he can be overprotective and be overruling. I guess he is just trying to be protective of Jacob but it just can be annoying. If Jacob went to the island by himself it would have been better because Jacob could have stayed in the loop the whole time instead of going back for dinner. The dad doesn't play a huge part in the book but I when he is in it he can be very annoying. I think the book would have been better if he wasn't in it.
6. I predict that Jacob will eventually end of living with the peculiars even though there's nothing peculiar about him. I'm also worried that some people will want to go to the real world with Jacob and they will die. I think this might happen because Jacob has been saying how cool his world his but when he sees that the apple shriveled up and crumpled he realizes that people and objects from the past cannot come into the future. Riggs writes about how Miss Peregrine thinks that Jacob has been persuading kids to come to his world but they would die. I guess I'll have to read more to find out!
