1) Through out the whole book steinbeck uses fore shadowing. At the begging of the book George tells Lennie he cant have any more pet mice because he keeps killing all the ones he gets. To make Lennie feel better George tells Lennie, the first chance i get ill get you a nice pup. At the farm George meats a man named slim who tells George he has some fresh born pups, and George asks if he can have one for Lennie. Slim says, you can have any pup you'd like Lennie. Lennie loved playing with the pups, but he could'nt play with them too much because they where young and needed to stay with there mother. One day when Lennie was playing with the pup, the pup tried to bite him so Lennie smaked it. Lennie was in the barn when Curleys' wife came in. Lennie quickly hid the dead pup in the hay. Curleys' wife saw him hide it. she sterted flirting with Lennie, but Lennie knew Gerorge did not want him talking to her, so he tied to avoid her. Lennie got on the topic about how he like soft thing and then Curley wife offered for him to feel her hair.when lennie was feeling her hair she wanted him to stop but he didnt, and he got scared so he clenched on her hair. Curley wife started screeming so Lennie covered her mouth and stared wiping her around untill she stopped moving. Then Lennie relized that he killed her so he ran to the river side and hid in the grass as george told him. George found out what Lennie had done so he ran down to the river to meet Lennie. when George saw Lennie at the river he was not mad at george just dissapionted in him. George had Lennie get on his knees and look into the woods. George started talking about how they were going to have rabbits and chickens and all these nice things on there farm that they were going to buy. Then to savw lennie from being torchered by Curley he shot Lennie in the back of the head without him knowing. After a little while Slim found George and offered to take him to get a drink.
2) I thought this was a very good book. this was the only book i have read where you need to read it a million times to get all the details. This book was also the only book with as much foreshadowing as it had.
3) The theme in the book that i had noticed is love over sacrafice. I really noticed this theme in to parts of the book. the first part was when Candy had to kill his dog. I thought this theme applied because Candy had the dog for so long but at the age it was it wasnt living a very nice life. The second but main part is when George has to shoot Lennie. I thought this applied because George loved lennie but had to shoot him so that Curley could not get to him and give him a pain full death.
4) My Favorite character is Slim. He is my favorite because he does not show up as a main character in the book more as another worker and Georges soon to become freind. Slim is always there for George even though you dont see him that much. I like how at the end after George shoots Lennie Slim is the only ony who offers to take him out for a beer.
5)My least favorite character is Curley. Curley is my least favorite because he alwaysed had a problem with Lennie just because Lennie was a lot bigger than him. Not only he did not like Lennie he had to get in a fight with hid to show that just because he is small he is still bigger than every one. I also dont like how he married his wife but does not spend any time with her, and isnt nice to her.
6) The ending is not what i thaught at all. I thought George and Lennie were going to try to run away together again. I also had a feeling Curley was gonna get Lennie and insted of George killing Lennie he would kill Curley in an efort to save Lennie. I also thought they where gonna get the farm they wanted.
John,
ReplyDeleteI felt that this book was a sad one and that the ending was a bad one. I really liked this book though, and I think you did too from your blog post. I think your blog post was great. I really liked your explanation of the book in the first paragraph. I agree with you that there are so many details in this book that you would have to read it a million time, and also the foreshadowing. It is everywhere. The whole ending has foreshadowing leading to it. One thing I saw differently was that the theme that you picked was a smaller theme. I picked loneliness which was what I thought was the biggest and most important theme. Overall a really good job!!!
