Of Mice and Men
John Steinbeck
realistic fiction

1. In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck it starts out with two guys named George and Lennie. They are to guys that are on the run from trouble and have been together for a long time and they have a dream to own there own land and this is called the american dream back in the 1930s. eventually they show up at a farm and start working there with some other guys and one of them is named Candy and he asks them if he can join there dream and he allowed. So now they are working together to make enough money to get to there goal. Along the way they meet some others like the black man Crooks with a bad back and he is just thorn in a horse stable and poorly treated because of racism. Then Lennie soon meets Curly's wife who he was told to look out for but then they get a little to close and Lennie kills her. He also had done some things to lead up to that like when he killed the mouse and a puppy. Then everyone gets mad with Lennie especially Curly who starts to look for a gun to kill Lennie. Next George goes out and finds Lennie thinking about the good things in life like his family and his dream. So now George knows what he has to do, he has to end this madness for everyone and for Lennie. So George goes and kills Lennie and later him and Slim leave for a new dream.

2. I thought that this was a pretty good book just from the start especially from the beginning mostly because of the detail and how he just set the scene for me in the beginning of the book. The beginning was how we met the main characters and that told us a lot about them and there dream. Also it was the beginning of when the foreshadowing happened with Lennie killing that mouse. As the book progressed it still stayed consistent and thats what kept me interested. When they introduced each character with each different personality that every character had a dream or a desire. then at the end it just became really powerful and it was a very good ending. When George had to kill Lennie to only help him and do what he had to was really well done.

3. I think the theme of this book is love and sacrifice because of the many examples of it in the book and how they are really alike. The first one is when Candy has the dog that he has had for ever and has cared for a long time and how the dog has always been there for him. Until now that the dog is just to old and can't keep going so eventually they decide its time and they have to sacrifice him. Another example is with Curly and his wife and how even though he doesn't always act like he doesn't love his wife. In the end he really does love her and I think most of the reason why he didn't was because of him being short and since his dad is the owner. Then she dies and he gets really upset and tries to avenge her. my final example is with George and Lennie and how they have always been together ever since Lennie's aunt told George to look after him all the way until George had to scarifies Lennie only for his own good.

4. My favorite character is George because he is a really good person for many reasons. One is because he takes such good care of Lennie even when he's tired and done with him he is still always there. Hes also a good person to the people he meets like the farm owners and most other random strangers. He is also really good to himself like how he is really tolerant about his size unlike Curly and how he gets mad all the time.

5. My least favorite character is Curly because he treats every one rally poorly. Mostly his wife because he never lets her out of the house and just uses her to make him look good. He is also mean because his dad is the boos and owner of the farm so he is not really given any respect like the other employees. He is also really mad because of his size especially because when he sees Lennie and how big he is he gets really mad.

6. Originally I thought that someone would get to there dream and I also thought Lennie would get in really bad trouble. But I did not expect this ending because at first I thought that Lennie would just be thrown in jail or something for doing something but I did not expect george to have to go and kill him. I was right about someone getting to there dream because George was able to keep moving on even without Lennie but with Slim instead.

  1. Hey Seth,

Your post had some similarities and differences with my views of this book. I completely agree on George being the best character. The book would be nothing without George, he really did take care of Lennie and I didn't even think about his tolerance for what he has to go through. However, I disagree on the rating of the book. I am aware of that this is one of the great American classics, but this book isn't for me. I found it a bit short and a bit too predictable becuase of the forshadowing.

    Good job Nacho,
