1. In the ending of the book Lennie is in the barn with Curley's wife while the others are playing horseshoes. Curley's wife finds out that Lennie has killed his pup. Then they start talking about their dreams and how Lennie is going to tend the rabbits and Curley's wife wanted to be a actor but her mom said no. Then they start talking about how Lennie likes to pet soft things. They talk about this little piece of velvet that Aunt Clara had given Lennie but then he lost it. Next, Curley's wife talks about how soft her hair is. Curley's wife puts Lennie's hand on her head which wasn't a good idea. Of course then Lennie wants to pet Curley's wife's hair. Lennie just can't seem to stop petting it. When Curley's wife tells Lennie to stop, she pulls away causing Lennie to panic. Lennie then grabs her hair even harder and then she screams. Lennie tells her to stop screaming but she won't. Then, Lennie shakes Curley's wife so hard that he breaks her neck and she falls to the floor. Lennie realizes that he has killed her so he says to himself that he needs to go hide in the brush. Later Candy and George find Curley's wife dead and realize that Lennie did it. Later, Curley and the other men come in the barn after finishing the game of horseshoes. Curley is furious, so furious that he orders all the men to kill him. They find that Carlson's gun is missing because George has it but they all assume that Lennie has it. They all ask George where he thinks Lennie is because he knows him the best. They all go off searching for Lennie with George in the lead. While the men are looking for Lennie, Lennie starts imagining things. He thinks he sees his Aunt Clara telling him how good George's been to him and he didn't treat George well. Next he thinks he sees a rabbit. He starts screaming at the rabbit until George finds him. George starts talking to Lennie about the place that they're going to have. George gets out a gun and shoots Lennie in the back of the head. Lennie falls to the ground dead. After George goes off with the rest of the men not knowing his future.
2. I thought that this book was okay. This book didn't have a lot of action in it except for the very end when Lennie kills Curley's wife. I thought John Steinbeck really did an amazing job at describing the setting and the characters. If you really payed attention to all of the foreshadowing you could have guess that George would have killed Lennie. I thought the author made this book as interesting as it could have been. I would have liked this book better if there was a different plot because it wasn't interesting for me. I just didn't like why Lennie wasn't mentally stable and it just got annoying and boring at the end. I guess this book's plot and storyline just wasn't for me.
3. I think one of the themes in Of Mice of Men was hopes and dreams. This theme showed up in most of the characters. Curley's wife dreamed of becoming an actress one day but her mother crushed it. If she became and actress she would had nice clothes a nice house, friends, and respect. One of the biggest dream that was brought up the most was George, Lennie, and Candy's dream of owning a house with lots of land with rabbits and alfalfa. Crooks wanted to be part of that dream but instead he backed out because he faced reality and how he could never do something like that because he's black.
4. My favorite character was Crooks. I liked Crooks a lot because he was kind, quite, and polite. I liked how he asked so politely if he could live with George, Lennie, and Candy. He also let Lennie come in his room so they could talk which was unusual. When I was reading the book I wanted to tell Crooks that he really would be appreciated if he stayed with George, Lennie, and Candy when he backed out. I also feel badly about his childhood. He was mistreated a lot. Crooks just has the overall feeling of a shy nice person that gives a positive feeling to everyone.
5. I really like the ending. I was really surprised about it. After I read it made a lot of sense because of all of the foreshadowing. I knew the ending because I overheard other classes talking about the ending. I really was surprised when I heard it though! I was a little confused a little on how George got the gun though. I wonder when he stole. Was it a while ago? A couple minutes ago? I liked how George killed Lennie peacefully though. Overall, John Steinbeck's ending was really good and surprising.
